JEDCline's Online Photos for Friends and Family

JEDCline's Online Photos for Friends and Family: Visit with Paul's family, Nov. 2004

BACKGROUND: This album shows some photos taken during my trip to visit Paul and his family in the Seattle, WA, area. The ride on the AMTRAK Coast Starlight passenger train from Los Angeles to Seattle provided some beautiful coastline and forest mountain views, although the dim overcast light pushed limits of my camera as taken from a fast moving train. At Paul's, lots of good food, lots to do; weather is mild right now.

Bird of Paradise flowering in garden at Union Station in Los Angeles, when I went to pick up the machine-printed tickets which were previously ordered online from home, enabling a discount.

The Coast Starlight train got some fine views of the coastline, despite it being overcast that day.

Another photo of the coastline showing beach, mild surf, Pacific Ocean extending toward the west.

I was in the the last coach train car, so looking out its rear window, snapping a photo just as the train exited one of the tunnels in mountain spectacular railway path, shows tunnel opening we had just exited. The photo has an interesting quality to it.

Still lacking a woman's companionship, to get myself into the picture, I took this self-photo of myself and window view, note reflection in window superimposed over trees outside.

IM000128.jpg

Despite the dim overcast light, and the fast train, my HP320 camera was able to get this photo of mountain river in Pacific Northwest, Oregon.

Gregory has breakfast in the morning after my arrival. He delights in seeing his photo on my camera.

IM000139.jpg

It is raining this morning, but only under the tall trees; moisture was condensed from the air, and the ground is dry in the spaces between the trees. Rainforest mechanism.

Thomas and Gregory pose for the camera.

In the evening, after return from where paul works in town, we proceed with ongoing car repairing; this is one of 4 engines in pieces here.

IM000168.jpg

Fine meals here for hard-working people; I will have to go back on severe diet when I return, but for now it is pig-out-time.

IM000172.jpg

My HP320 camera gets me into dinner photo too.

IM000173.jpg

Dinner time.. Paul is building this house so is ever in construction somewhere.

IM000194.jpg

It is not always easy to find something flat upon which to set the camera for a self-photo.

Nature's equivalent of the "if it don't move, paint it" motto: note car on right side of photo.

The cat expresses his opinion of having the camera pointed at him.

Paul hoists an engine for the car.

IM000416.jpg

A lot of work has gone into the engine already.

The engine heads for its new home under the hood.

Paul and Gregory get to relax awhile.

I get a photo of myself, too.

Busy repairing, has gotten cold and dark.

Back inside, dinner done, Thomas and Gregory practice swinging on the table edge.

The long busses in Seattle have flex joints in the middle and educational signs on them, like this one.

IM000639.jpg

Seattle's King St Station is being remodeled, here I am with Paul in front of graphic of changes.

IM000641.jpg

Paul points out on the graphic the train station's design change area he is looking at.

Apartment building, railroad coach and two locomotives, represent how mankind's works are overwriting nature's.

We reach the coast ocean view in time to watch the beach sunset.

The used bicycle I bought near Paul's, then partially apart in a bicycle box while on the train, is back together again in my kitchen. I look forward to bicycling again, although this area has little that is not steep up or down.
